Things to Do in Canggu with Kids – A Family Guide

Canggu has become one of Bali's most popular destinations — a laid-back mix of surf beaches, stylish cafés, co-working spaces and a buzzing expat scene. But if you're visiting with children, or raising a family here, you'll quickly notice something: Canggu is built more for digital nomads and surfers than for little ones. Dedicated kids' activities can be surprisingly hard to find.

The good news? With a bit of local know-how, Canggu and its surroundings offer plenty to keep children happy. Here's our family guide to the best things to do in Canggu with kids.

1. Hit the Beach (at the Right Time)

Canggu's beaches — Echo Beach, Berawa, Batu Bolong — are famous for surf, which means strong currents that aren't ideal for young swimmers. But they're wonderful for a family beach walk, sandcastle-building and watching the surfers, especially at sunset. Stick to the sand and shallow edges with little ones, and always keep a close eye on the water. Many beachfront cafés have relaxed areas where kids can play while you enjoy a drink.

2. Family-Friendly Cafés

If there's one thing Canggu does brilliantly, it's cafés — and many are genuinely family-friendly. You'll find spots with garden play areas, healthy kids' menus, smoothie bowls the children will love, and the relaxed, open-air setting that makes eating out with kids easy rather than stressful. A lazy family brunch is one of Canggu's great pleasures.

3. Rice Field Walks

Just behind the busy streets, Canggu still has beautiful stretches of rice paddies. A gentle morning walk along the paths — like the well-known shortcut trails between Berawa and Echo Beach — is free, peaceful and a lovely way for kids to see the greener, more traditional side of Bali. Go early to beat the heat.

4. Mookiland Park — The Big Kids' Day Out (15 Minutes Away)

When the kids need to properly let loose — and Canggu itself doesn't have a dedicated play park — the answer is just 15 minutes down the road. Mookiland Park, in nearby Kerobokan, is the biggest outdoor family park in south Bali, purpose-built for children aged 2 to 12.

It's a 5,000m² adventure park packed with giant French-made inflatables — the Maxi Adventure obstacle course, the Big Castle, the Bubble Gum balance dome, and the toddler-friendly Jungle — plus the Fun Zip double zip line, the Crazy Net suspended net-cage, water play at Water Splash and Verticale Limite XXL, and giant games. Everything is shaded, the equipment is certified to European safety standards, and there's a restaurant with rice field views where parents can relax. It's open every day from 9am to 9:30pm.

For many Canggu families, it's become the reliable go-to whenever the kids need a real day of play. Learn more in our guide to the best outdoor playground in Bali.

5. Creative & Rainy-Day Options

Canggu has a growing number of kids' workshops, art classes and small play cafés that are perfect when the weather turns or the family needs a calmer afternoon. For more wet-weather ideas across the area, see our guide to rainy day activities for kids in Bali.

Tips for Visiting Canggu with Kids

  • Beat the traffic — Canggu's narrow roads get very congested midday; plan outings for early morning or late afternoon
  • Use Grab and Gojek — easier and safer than driving unfamiliar scooters with children
  • Mind the surf — Canggu's beaches have strong currents; keep young children at the shallow edges only
  • Stay sun-safe — hats, sunscreen and water are essential in the tropical heat
  • Build in a proper play day — a trip to Mookiland gives kids the active outlet that café-and-beach days don't always provide

Canggu Is Better with Kids Than You'd Think

Canggu might have a reputation as a surfer-and-nomad hub, but with the right plan it's a genuinely great base for a family trip. Between its beaches, cafés and rice fields — and a big outdoor playground just minutes away — there's more than enough to fill happy, active days with the children.
